    Event description

Our event will commence with a Welcome to Country by our Indigenous Patron Uncle Ivan ‘Tiwu’ Copley who will explain the significance of our region to the Kaurna people. Activityies during the daylight and in the dark will include expert talks and walks with Dr Teresa Lebel - 'Foraging for Fungi in The Gums' and PhD Candidate Beth Treglown - 'Critters in The Gums Reserve'.

We are also excited by the fact that we are hosting a Community Arts Project called  'FUNgiWorld' with activities created by Laura Wills and Will Cheesman (Wills Projects) and the St Josephs Tranmere school students.

Before we break for 'Poets Corner' and a 'Singalong' with local artists before we enjoy a sausage sizzle and a byo picnic basket.

The Gums Landcare Group have commissioned Wills Projects to work with students from the St Josephs Tranmere School to create costumes and props that capture the essence of fungi in our environment. It is anticipated that Will and Laura will focus on the use of recycled cardboard and materials that can keep the project sustainable.

Will Cheesman will encourage students and staff at the St Josephs Tranmere School to respond to photos of fungi from The Gums Reserve and make costumes and props for parades during daylight and under lights as the evening progresses for a wonderful event as part of the 2024 Nature Festival.’

Focussing on fungi in The Gums Reserve, which is frequented frequently by the students of St Josephs School, in a FUN way will reinforce the connection with Nature and the opportunity to learn about culture and community.

This is an engaging community event that all locals are welcome to attend.
