    Event description

Australasian Women in Emergencies (AWE) invites members who will be in Wellington, NZ, on the 14th of September, to join for a tour of the National Geohazard Monitoring Centre New Zealand (NGMC).

The NGMC opened in December of 2018 and provides around-the-clock eyes-on monitoring of geohazards in New Zealand including earthquakes, tsunami, volcanoes and landslides. It is the first operation of its kind in the world to monitor all four hazards in one facility. The NGMC’s role is to monitor and respond to natural hazard events, understand where the event has occurred, what the consequences of that event might be, and get that information to the people who need to make decisions and act quickly.

Join us to learn more about the NZ natural hazard landscape and get all your questions answered by the awesome Geohazard Analysts team tasked with monitoring it.

Following the tour, over pizza, the group can network with the GNS team and participants. Bring some cash, and we will order some pizza to share.

An opportunity to carpool will be arranged or you can meet us at GNS at 6 pm. Further instructions will be sent following registration.

As with most things in the emergency sector, this event could be cancelled last minute if they have a response.

We look forward to seeing you there!
