Baby Massage Workshop with Bibha Sharma

Join Bibha for this three-week workshop on full body baby massage, held at the Maternal and Child Health Centre at Newlands Neighbourhood House.

In each one-hour session, parents will be guided through a number of specific strokes for baby massage, with the aim of practicing the methods at home. Sessions two and three will begin by addressing any questions or concerns parents had in their home practice, before introducing new techniques and strokes. The three-week course is designed to allow for an intuitive approach to baby massage, and one that prioritises confidence and comfort, where both parents and babies can gain the full benefits of this practice.

Some of the benefits and applications of baby massage include:

• promoting healthy development
• understanding cues and communication
• treatment for colic, constipation, reflux, and teething pain
• basic relaxation techniques
• exercise and gentle movement
• bonding

The class will also touch on some important topics such as:

• the importance of touch
• how to distinguish between bonding and attachment
• why it is important to ask permission before beginning massage, and how to ask permission
• the best times to perform massage
• what types of oils can be used
• how to use massage to calm a crying baby

This three week workshop with Bibha also touches on a number of topics for new parenthood, such as the importance of self-care and the missing fourth trimester.

Further Details

These workshops are intended to be suitable to babies aged 0-12 months.

All Classes include a bottle of organic oil and instructional handouts on strokes as well as topics of discussion.

As a baby massage instructor, Bibha will demonstrate on a doll, and will not touch the babies.

About Bibha

I am a qualified Infant Massage Educator, a mother, a registered nurse and a nurse immunizer, currently working as a Practice Nurse in the Moreland community. I have always had a special interest in baby massage and completed my course through Infant Massage Australia. I believe in the effectiveness of baby massage and want to share what I have learnt with mothers, fathers and people who work professionally with infants and families.
