BACK TO BASICS KIKI BALL - BACK TO THE FUTURE EDITION

The Back to Basics kiki Ball - Back to the Future Edition, is the third volume of the kiki balls hosted yearly by the kiki House of Cartier, established on Gadigal land in November 2022. The LGBTQIA+ Ballroom scene was born from the struggle of Black and Latino trans women and the wider queer and POC communities in disadvantaged NYC. The concept of ‘Houses’ are key in Ballroom and refer to found families where ‘parents’ mentor and guide their ‘kids’ through living in hostile societies as queer and POC. In Australia, the community is still fairly new and consists of only Kiki (locally-based) Houses.

The Back to Basics kiki Ball finishes off this year's Ballroom gatherings, mobilising community members from interstate but also overseas.
