My background is in Marketing and Public Relations. I have been teaching in the tertiary sector for some time and have also had the opportunity to share my knowledge and skills in this field ‘off campus’ working within the not-for-profit sector. I also operate my own Public Relations consultancy.
In my recent position as Senior Lecturer at Notre Dame University Fremantle (WA) I taught the basics of marketing and what makes marketing not for profit businesses different, among many other topics.
‘Off campus’ I have been heavily involved in a number of not-for-profit organisations including the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation (currently), the Duyfken 1606 Replica Foundation, Rotary International, the South of Perth Yacht club, the Endeavour Foundation, the National Heart Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and I was branch manager for Lifeline Mackay just to name a few.  I have held several board and committee positions in these organisations including being in the ‘hot seat’ as Chairman.
Marketing is sometimes a misunderstood topic as many just think it’s all about those ‘annoying ‘ads’. It’s not. Developing a marketing plan particularly for a not-for-profit organisation takes careful planning and a bit of research too.
I’d like the opportunity to take you through some of the basic steps of writing a marketing plan for your organisation, from identifying what your organisation within the community, to how you promote yourselves through to how important and vital volunteers are to any organisation.
