Backyard Bananas
Description
Spring is the perfect time to year to plant new bananas, so come along to this informative and practical workshop to learn more about how we grow bananas at Hope Teaching Garden.
Every participant will also take home a banana pup ready to plant in your own backyard, using all the skills and knowledge you’ve learned from your workshop.
This workshop is ideal for home gardeners or community garden volunteers who want to learn more about growing nutrient dense foods locally. Bananas love well-nourished soil, making them excellent for composting initiatives and a truly circular way of growing food.
Our team are banana experts, because we grow them at a range of schools and community gardens through Second Bite, a community composting initiative that helps businesses contribute to local food growing projects.

Everyone who attends the workshop on the day can also enter our prize draw to win a double pass to Jack Johnson’s SURFILMUSIC tour at Spark Arena on Friday 20 November.
Double your impact
We’re a matched-fundraising partner for Jack Johnson’s 2026 tour, with all money raised going to help Second Bite’s community composting education. Every dollar in donations that we receive before 31 December 2026 will be matched by the Johnson Ohana Foundation.
