Backyard Fruit Trees
Event description
It’s amazing how much tasty fruit you can grow in a small backyard. One of the key factors is not treating your yard like a commercial orchard where forty kilos of one variety of apple are ripe on the same day, but rather, more like a forest of many trees, shrubs, and smaller plants, all of which are working to provide your family with delicious, safe food.
Zoom into this online workshop with Melbourne horticulturalist Scott Hitchins to learn how to select and plant your new fruit trees, get them pruned into the right shape, and then maintain them simply and productively. We’ll cover pruning, netting, sustainable pest & disease control and even how to fit in a lot more fruit varieties around and under your trees.
Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally.
If you have any access or support questions or requirements in order to participate fully (eg. interpreter), please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event and we will be pleased to assist you.
This My Smart Garden event is proudly presented by Wyndham City Council on the land of Bunurong and Wadawurrung of the Kulin nation.
