Event description

Bad Weather have announced the forthcoming release of their most vulnerable single yet, “The Man Or The Boy”, due out Friday February 23, 2024. For the past 3 years Bad Weather have continued to capture the attention of audiences and listeners alike after establishing their signature nostalgia-pop-rock sound with their 2020 movie-soundtrack tune, “Teenagers In Love”.

After riding the MTV Rotation wave and receiving praise from heavy-hitters like Music Feeds, Backseat Mafia, Pilerats, Good Call Live, and a whole crew of tastemakers following their debut EP in late 2022 and single “Lilac” in 2023, Bad Weather are now gearing up for a huge start to 2024. Their upcoming release, "The Man Or The Boy," goes beyond showcasing the band's artistic evolution. It dives into raw, timely themes, navigating the relatable waters of identity and mental health, striking a chord with a diverse audience and highlighting the band’s distinct place in today’s ever-evolving musical soundscape.

“When I wrote this song my mental health was pretty low. I felt like I was in a rut and found myself continuously questioning whether the decisions I'd made in my life up until that point were right and if I had become the person I'd hoped I would be. I think that’s a really easy mental cycle to fall into, especially as you grow older.” says Callum (singer/songwriter/guitarist).

“I brought it into our home studio one day and it was pretty much there but we were struggling to finish the chorus. We ended up setting up a microphone and I started scatting words and melodies and within half an hour the chorus and bridge were done. It was a really special moment for the both of us. It felt really important and we knew that it was the perfect first single for 2024.”

Bad Weather will celebrate the release of this intimate song with an intimate event at Vinyl Cafe, Leederville, on Friday February 23  where Cal & Jono will perform never before heard songs, listen to the new single with fans, and of course have a bunch of new merch up for grabs. Support comes from JADE RICH, performing her debut solo set. Part proceeds will go to Headspace (partial merch profits, ticket add-ons and venue beverage donations).
