Description

The Mayor and Councillors of Merri-bek Council invite you to join our panel of speakers and Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Annette Xiberras as we explore this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Balance the Scales”.

This theme highlights the need for fair, inclusive and accessible legal support and services to promote women's rights in key areas, such as health and reproductive health, employment and financial independence. This will be an interactive session, with an opportunity to engage with the speakers through questions and discussion:

  • Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elder, Aunty Annette Xiberras has been working in the cultural heritage industry for more than 45 and has held the Victorian Aboriginal community-elected chair of the Victorian Traditional Owners Land Justice Group for the past 21 years. She combines expertise in Aboriginal cultural heritage, Archaeology, Koori Courts and human rights with business and commercial experience.

  • Binari Almeida, Graduate Lawyer at the Working Women’s Centre Victoria, where she supports women and gender diverse workers facing complex workplace issues.

  • Tilly Mahoney, Health Promotion Program Lead at Women’s Health in the North, where she coordinates workforce development, community engagement and strategic health promotion initiatives across Melbourne’s northern region.

  • Pai Rittichai, Manager - Community, WIRE Support Service, where she leads multiple community projects on financial and economic security for women and gender diverse people, the one-on-one support program and volunteer training program.
