Balcony Garden Workshop
Description
You don't need a backyard to grow something beautiful🌿
Join Perth City Farm for a hands-on workshop designed for urban living. From tiny balconies to sunny windowsills, learn to transform your outdoor space into a thriving sanctuary.
Balcony gardens do more than you might think. They help reduce air pollution and urban heat, increase biodiversity and improve the health and wellbeing of the people who tend them. And there's nothing quite like the feeling of growing your own food, no matter how small the space.
What we'll cover:
Assessing your space and what will thrive there
Selecting the right plants for your conditions
Vertical growing solutions
Compact composting and worm farming
Pots & soils
We will guide you through a design exercise to come up with a plan for your space and you will plant out your own windowsill planter with herbs or vegetables to take home.
These workshops are sponsored by City of Perth through their Sustainability Sponsorship.
On Thursdays our Farm After Five event will be on at the same time. Feel free to enjoy the lively atmosphere, buy your kitchen staples at the farm shop before or grab a drink at Be Free café after. On Saturday, our Farmer's Market is running, so bring your shopping bags and stock up on essentials. Be Free café will be open for breakfast and coffee.
Perth City Farm is a community urban farm that supports connected, sustainable communities. Established on a former industrial site in East Perth, this polluted site has been lovingly rehabilitated by volunteers to become a Western Australian icon for environmental sustainability and community engagement. We provide space and opportunities to build community connections, and educate and enable people to live sustainably.
