Band Beyond Description
Description
If the Grateful Dead is your religion, then the Crazy Horse is your church when Third Thursday rolls around. Every month Jonny Mojo (Achilles Wheel), Gary Campus (Deadbeats) and Tim High (Tim High & the Mighty) host a cast of the finest musicians from around the region to conjure lightning in a bottle. BBD is a gathering point for everyone who wants to plug into the feeling of what it was like soaking in the otherworldly sounds at a Dead show while sharing the dance muse with the tribe. The music that bubbles forth from these nights captures the spontaneous, primal, orgasmic spirit that so many of us crave.
Jonny is a proverbial pied piper who guides the flock to the promised land with his incredibly versatile guitar playing and passion for the music coursing through his veins. He is one of the brightest lights among Nor Cal GD guitar specialists. He lives and breathes this music like a fish swimming in the sea. Gary emanates bliss in every beat and gracefully molds his style to elevate the strengths of his collaborators. He’s been a rhythmic instigator in the region for 45 years now and is more fired up than ever. Nothing makes Tim happier than singing Grateful Dead songs as is evident by his assertive and heartfelt renditions of the classics as well as obscurities. Akin to Mickey Mantle switch-hitting, he transmits the fiery explosiveness of Bob and the raw emotion of Jerry.
We have a deadly trio of special guests who will meld their talents together in electrifying fashion. Returning on guitar and vocals is local favorite, Danny “Dellow” Roholt (Jessica Malone, Magic in the Other). This Berklee College of Music grad is the kind of guy who one could imagine making music straight out of the womb. Everything comes so naturally to him as you will see when liquid silver cascades of sound seemingly rain down from the sky with the strum of his fingers. His vocal prowess is also nothing short of extraordinary.
Speaking of vocal prowess, we are always thrilled when Scotty Foreman (No Simple Highway) makes the trek from Sonoma to join the band on keys. Technicolor ribbons of melody sprout forth from his imagination with riveting ease. He has been a key contributor to several very memorable BBD lineups in the past including our 50th anniversary Europe ’72 extravaganza and acoustic/electric foray this past May. His vocal versatility allows him to pull off Jerry, Bobby and Pigpen which means the setlist possibilities are endless.
Rounding out the group on bass is our old pal, Connor O’Sullivan (Midnight North). Connor is a rock-solid groove master whose knowledge of the Grateful Dead catalog allows him to cruise the perimeter of the galaxy. Having spent extensive time with Phil Lesh, he has a better understanding than most in grasping the essence of what made the Dead tick.
