Our Stories Matter: The Common Traits of Exceptional People - An evening with Barnaby Howarth
Description
Can resilience be learned?
Some people seem to overcome life's greatest challenges with remarkable courage and grace.
What do they have in common?
Join us for the next Our Stories Matter event as we welcome Barnaby Howarth - keynote speaker, storyteller, resilience coach and host of the Everyday Greatness podcast.
Growing up with Type 1 diabetes, Barnaby learned early that resilience isn't something you suddenly discover when life becomes difficult - it's something you practise every day.
His passion for sport took him all the way to the Sydney Swans, where he fulfilled his dream of playing AFL. But at just 25 years of age, his life changed dramatically when he survived a violent assault that left him with an acquired disability and a stroke.
The years that followed became a journey of rehabilitation, reinvention and discovering what real strength looks like.
Today, Barnaby inspires audiences across Australia through his keynote The Common Traits of Exceptional People, combining humour, vulnerability and practical insights to explore the qualities that unite remarkable people from all walks of life.
His story has resonated with organisations including Google, Nestlé, Salesforce, Linfox, the ABC and the Sydney Swans.
As host of the Everyday Greatness podcast, Barnaby has also interviewed many of Australia's most respected leaders, athletes, journalists and CEOs, including Adam Goodes and Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia.
At the heart of everything Barnaby does is one simple philosophy:
"Be a good bloke."
Because in the end, goodness still works.
During this inspiring evening, Barnaby will share:
Why resilience is a skill we can all develop
Lessons from elite sport, adversity and recovery
The common traits of exceptional people
The importance of kindness, character and community
Finding purpose through life's greatest challenges
Practical insights for living a more resilient and meaningful life
The presentation will conclude with a live Q&A where attendees will have the opportunity to ask Barnaby questions about his extraordinary journey.
Whether you're facing your own challenges, supporting someone else, leading a team, or simply looking for inspiration, Barnaby's story will remind you that resilience is not reserved for a select few - it's something that lives within all of us.
Barnaby has also just written a new autobiography called “Everyday Greatness: thoughts on athlete mentality from a regular Joe bag O’Donuts.”
