Bat Fantastic

Join expert Joe Tonga for an exciting evening at EcoHub! Start the night with an engaging talk about the fascinating nocturnal world, followed by a guided night walk through Piney Lakes Reserve. Discover the amazing creatures that come alive after dark, including fantastic microbats! Learn about these incredible animals and the vibrant ecosystem that thrives when the sun goes down.

As you explore, you'll encounter other nocturnal creatures like birds, frogs, insects, and spiders. Bats, threatened by habitat loss, play a crucial role in our ecosystem, and this is a wonderful opportunity to understand their importance and how we can help protect them.

This family-friendly activity is recommended for families with children ~5 and up to 17yrs! Don't miss this chance for an unforgettable, educational adventure under the stars during the school holidays!

This is not a 'drop and leave' event. All people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible parent/carer. Parents/carers are responsible for the safety and well-being of children at all times.

Requirements

Wearing enclosed shoes, long pants and long sleeves is recommended. Please bring weather appropriate clothing, a torch and mosquito repellent.

Type of event and expectations

Outdoor event - This event features a guided outdoor walk focused on observing live animals in their natural habitat. Participants are expected to follow the program facilitator's instructions and show respect throughout the experience. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Due to the nature of the event, there will be moments where silence is required. As such, this event may not be ideal for children who have difficulty remaining quiet for short periods when asked.

Walking ~1km, some uneven pathways.

Accessible parking is available at front of EcoHub, rooms are located on multiple levels via a ramp and toilets are available within the venue. For specific access requirements please feel free to call or email EcoHub at (08)9364 0191 or ecohub@melville.wa.gov.au

Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near EcoHub and services multiple routes.

EcoHub is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes Reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.
