Bataireacht (Irish Stick Fighting) Seminar
Event description
"Bataireacht: The Art of Irish Stick Fighting – History, Technique, and Tradition"
Seminar Description:
Discover the rich cultural heritage and martial tradition of Bataireacht, the Irish art of stick fighting, in this engaging and hands-on seminar. Rooted in Ireland's Gaelic history and folklore, Bataireacht was once practiced across the country, often associated with family lineages and regional styles.
This seminar will explore both the historical context and practical techniques of Bataireacht, focusing primarily on the use of the shillelagh – the iconic Irish fighting stick. Participants will be introduced to foundational stances, footwork, striking patterns, and defensive maneuvers, while also learning about the cultural and historical evolution of the art, including its role in the faction fights of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Whether you're a martial arts enthusiast, a historical reenactor, or simply curious about Irish heritage, this seminar offers a unique opportunity to engage with a nearly forgotten fighting tradition. No prior experience is necessary, and training sticks will be provided.
