Event description

As part of our Art for Takayna exhibition, join Mahalia White-McColl for an afternoon of playing with clay.

📅 Sunday 15 + Friday 20 June
🕚 1 - 3 pm
📍 Salamanca Arts Centre, Level 1 - Long Gallery, Niplauna / Hobart

This 2-hour workshop will take you through the basics of making pinch pots, and some decorating techniques to bring Takayna to your table. You'll be shown how to decorate your pots with hand-made mushrooms, or use leaves and ferns to make your own patterns. You'll be provided with enough clay to make 2 cups.

Suitable for absolute beginners, you will be provided with clay and a few tools (though you won't need many, as most of this you can do at home!). Mahalia will teach you super accessible pottery skills and then glaze and fire your masterpieces.  Your work will be ready for collection within six weeks of the workshop.

Please wear clothes you don't mind getting a bit dirty! Red clays may leave stains on light coloured fabric.

Tickets are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

🌿 This event is part of our 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘆𝗻𝗮 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, showcasing powerful works inspired by Takayna, one of Earth's last wild places. Featuring paintings, photographs, music and sculpture, the exhibition captures the beauty and urgency of this threatened landscape. Learn more: https://bobbrown.org.au/event/art-for-takayna/
