BCEC Housing Affordability in Western Australia 2025
Event description
The Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre invites you to join us for the release of our latest Housing Affordability report at this special sundowner event.
The challenge of responding to Australia’s housing crisis has dominated the national conversation and featured prominently in the run-up to both state and federal elections. And despite some signs of a softening housing market, Western Australia still faces high housing costs, low rental vacancies, and an inadequate supply of new stock. These challenges risk slowing the state’s economic development and continue to affect the most financially vulnerable sections of society.
This latest issue of the BCEC Housing Affordability report series explores the recent trajectory of housing costs for both homeowners and renters in WA. This includes a unique analysis of rental bonds data to provide suburb-level evidence of bond lodgements, agreed rents, and rental stock. The report also includes insights from the fourth wave of the Australian Housing Conditions Data Infrastructure (AHCDI) survey, a repeated national survey of homeowners and renters funded by the Australian Research Council that captures households’ tenure situations, their economic and social situation, and their perspectives on housing affordability and the adequacy of housing supply.
With such an uncertain global landscape, this report asks whether governments are paying sufficient attention to structural measures that will alleviate cost pressures in an ongoing sense. Or are we still just being fed emergency relief? And is WA on track to hit its share of the national housing supply target of 1.2 million homes over the next five years?
This report is a timely addition to the national conversation on housing affordability in Australia and adds valuable evidence to drive discussion on housing solutions in WA and across the country.
Join us for this special networking sundowner event, with a presentation of the report findings and a facilitated panel discussion Q&A with leading experts in the field.
