Event description

Learn the art of spoon carving with a master wood craftsman, Neil Turner! His work has been shown in galleries across Australia and internationally, and his fine sculptures and furniture feature in both public and private collections, so we are honoured to have him present this session for our Art and Technology Workshop Series.

What is involved?
The workshop will teach the skill of carving a spoon with a Saber tooth bur fitted in a Micromotor. This is a very safe method of carving and opens the door to carve many timbers that cannot be carved with chisels. Students will be offered the choice of carving a straight handled spoon or curved handle spoon out of Jacaranda, this wood is a medium density timber excellent for this type of project. All materials and safety gear will be supplied, including breathing masks and eye protection.

Each workshop runs for 1.5 hours. Maximum of 5 participants, suitable for ages 15 years and over.

Where is the workshop held? In our design and technology workshop at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School
What do I bring? All materials are provided, as well as tea, coffee and morning tea!
What to Wear:
Please wear clothing that can get dusty/dirty. Closed in shoes are also essential and a safety requirement.
