BCSA Gala End of Year Public Talk - Prof Chris Daniels 'Can we bring Platypuses back?'
Event description
The final Public Talk for 2024 will be a sit-down dinner catered by the Committee of Butterfly Conservation SA. This dinner will give us
a chance to celebrate the achievements of our association and the great work undertaken during 2024.
Following dinner we will have a stimulating talk presented by Professor Chris Daniels:
'Returning Platypus to the Torrens: Turning a Dream into Reality'
Platypus were last recorded in the River Torrens /Karrawirra Parri in the 1880s.
Their extinction correlated with the destruction of the Torrens. However, since the 1970s and particularly over the past
2 decades, the Torrens has been rejuvenated. Could we now bring back the platypus? If so how? This talk discusses the fall
and rise of the River Torrens and the program to rewild Platypus.
Professor Chris Daniels, Chair of the Green Adelaide Landscape Board, and member of 30 other Environmental Boards and committees,
is no stranger to Butterfly Conservation SA. In 2012 he launched our website, and when Director of the Cleland Wildlife Park, formed
a relationship with our organisation during the project to house and raise butterflies at Cleland. He continues to be an enthusiastic
supporter of BCSA.
