Event description

In 2005, Palestinian organisations called on supporters around the world to boycott, divest and sanction Israel for its apartheid policies.

At this meeting, we’ll hear from two activists who have helped lead ground-breaking BDS campaigns in Australia.

Sara Saleh helped organise a boycott of the 2022 Sydney Festival over its acceptance of Israeli sponsorship which was supported by more than 100 artists and companies – the biggest BDS action in this country to date.

Nick Riemer leads the National Tertiary Education Union branch at the University of Sydney, where members voted in May for an academic boycott of Israel, a historic first for Australian university workers.

SPEAKERS:

Sara Saleh is a writer, human rights lawyer, organiser and the daughter  of migrants from Palestine, Egypt  and Lebanon.

Dr Nick Riemer is branch president of the NTEU at the University of Sydney and author of Boycott Theory and the Struggle for Palestine: Universities, Intellectualism and Liberation.
