Description
Beach Buddies is a free beach experience for international students in Victoria, designed to help you get active, meet new people and feel more connected to life in Melbourne.
Across five relaxed beach sessions, you’ll have the chance to try:
Beach Tennis
Learn the basics, have a hit and enjoy a fun, social game on the sand.
Bodyboarding + Water Safety
Build confidence in the water, learn practical beach and ocean safety skills, and have a go at bodyboarding.
Meet New People
Connect with other international students in a friendly, inclusive and welcoming environment.
No previous experience is needed, and all equipment is provided.

- Who can attend Beach Buddies?
Beach Buddies is designed for international students in Victoria.
- Do I need any experience?
No. No previous beach tennis or bodyboarding experience is needed. The sessions are designed to be beginner-friendly and welcoming.
- What activities are included?
Each session includes:
Beach tennis
Bodyboarding
Water safety
Time to meet and connect with other international students
- Is Beach Buddies free?
Yes. Beach Buddies is completely free to attend.
- Do I need to bring my own equipment?
No. Beach tennis and bodyboarding equipment will be provided.
- What should I bring?
Please bring:
Swimwear
Comfortable beach or activewear
A towel
Water bottle
Sunscreen
A change of clothes if needed
- Where is the event?
West Beach Pavilion, St Kilda West.
- What time does it run?
Each session runs from 11:30am–1:00pm.
- How many people can attend?
Places are limited to 50 participants per session, so early registration is recommended.
- What happens if the weather is bad?
Because the event includes outdoor and water-based activities, weather conditions will be monitored. Registered participants will be contacted if there are any changes to the session.
- What if I register and can no longer attend?
Please cancel or update your booking through Humanitix so your place can be offered to another student.
- Will photos be taken at the event?
Photography may take place during Beach Buddies for event promotion and reporting. Any required consent information will be provided as part of the registration and event process.
- Is the event inclusive?
Yes. Beach Buddies is designed to be a welcoming and inclusive experience for international students from different backgrounds and experience levels.

What to Expect on the Day
11:15am – Arrival & Check-in Meet the team, get settled and get ready for the session. 11:30am – Welcome & Safety Briefing Quick introduction, group allocation and water-safety information. 11:30am–12:15pm – Activity Session 1 Group A: Beach Tennis Group B: Bodyboarding + Water Safety 12:15pm–1:00pm – Activity Session 2 Groups swap activities. 1:00pm – Wrap-up Final check-in, photos and goodbye.
