Beat journalism is an important part of the media landscape, and an excellent way to build knowledge and skills in a topic area early in your media career. Join ABC Four Corners Reporter and former ABC South Asia Correspondent Avani Dias and Guardian Higher Education Reporter Caitlin Cassidy in a panel moderated by Woroni Editor Charlie Crawford as they discuss beat journalism in mainstream media. 

About Avani Dias


Avani Dias is a reporter at Australia’s leading investigative program Four Corners. She was previously the ABC’s South Asia correspondent based in New Delhi, where she interviewed world leaders and travelled across the region covering groundbreaking stories. Avani was previously the host of the ABC's national youth current affairs show Hack on triple j and has worked as an ABC News reporter across online, radio, and TV in Sydney, Darwin, and country NSW.

About Caitlin Cassidy

Caitlin Cassidy is currently working as a higher education reporter at Guardian Australia. Prior to this, she was a breaking news reporter at Guardian Australia after beginning career at the Shepparton News. In 2020, she interned with The Age, the Canberra Times, RMIT ABC Fact Check and the Lifted Brow.
