Beats & Moves: A Cultural Dance and Drum Experience
Event description
A West African drumming session will be held at Gordon White Library after work hours, allowing attendees to explore rhythm and culture through a hands-on experience. Each participant will be given a djembe drum, a traditional West African percussion instrument known for its deep, powerful sound. Led by an experienced facilitator, the group will learn basic drumming techniques and explore various rhythms together, promoting cultural appreciation and connection through music.
Following the drumming, the event will turn up the energy with a Latin dance workshop led by a professional Argentinian dance instructor. Participants will learn the fundamentals of salsa and other Latin American dances, with time to practice and enjoy the joyful, social aspect of dance in a relaxed and supportive setting. Whether solo or with a partner, everyone will be encouraged to join in and have fun.
The evening will conclude with delicious Asian catering, offering a chance to unwind, connect, and enjoy a taste of Asia’s diverse flavours. This event is designed to bring people together through music, movement, and food—three universal languages that inspire celebration, understanding, and community.
