Event description

Join us as a Volunteer Circle Facilitator

Circles of Support are a powerful way to assist a person with disability to take their rightful place as full and equal citizens at the heart of our community. A Circle of Support is a group of people who gather together with purpose - to support an individual to live the life they choose.  Circles bring together family, friends and allies in an organised way to support the person to develop and take action on their goals and dreams.

Circles of Support have been running all over the world since the 1980s and can help people achieve a greater sense of purpose, connection, control and belonging.

We are inviting you to apply for our exciting, free training!  By participating, you can become a volunteer Circle Facilitator where you will build a genuine connection with a person with intellectual disability, supporting them to become more connected to their community and expand their social networks.  This is your opportunity to work directly with a person with disability to help them build their own Circle of Support while developing skills to build inclusion in our community in a practical way. We carefully screen all our volunteers at Hunter Circles and provide you with ongoing supervision, support and training. You will be playing a direct part in making our community more inclusive as each person moves towards the change they want to make happen in their life.

What does it take to be a Circle Facilitator?

A commitment to the rights and inclusion of people with disability
Strong communication and networking skills
A commitment to your local community with local knowledge and connections
Willingness to share your social networks
Problem solving skills
You can work on your own but also get along well with others
A ‘can do’ approach – creativity, initiative and leadership skills
A commitment to work alongside a person with intellectual disability to become more connected to their community.

Everyone is welcome to apply.  Priority will be given to people who want to make their contribution to our community as a volunteer Circle Facilitator.  We are looking for people who are keen to make a 2 year commitment with the possibility of an ongoing connection. We take a personalised approach to linking people based on shared interests, to support meaningful connections - it's a two-way relationship!
