School Holidays: Bee Bonanza at the Museum!

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Come down to the SA Museum for a school holiday Bee Bonanza! Native bees are a vital part of our ecosystems, and this workshop will equip curious children to create a bee-friendly environment at home.  Led by experts from Nature Play SA, participants will learn about native bees and their importance in local ecosystems while making their very own sunflower bee bomb and bee hotel to take home. All participants will also receive a native bee ID resource sheet and printed instructions for successfully germinating flowers from their seed bomb.

This is a sensory and fine-motor-skill activity which children can engage with on the day and later at home. Using clay, soil and seeds, participants will make a 'bee bomb' to throw in the garden or a pot at home. When watered, the seeds will germinate and grow into flowers that will attract and support native bees. They will also make a bee hotel to take home using natural materials. Bamboo bee hotels offer native solitary or semi-social bees a home and a place to lay their eggs. After this event participants will be able to use what they have made to help build and maintain bee-friendly habitats in their backyard.

All materials are included, so come and get your hands dirty in this engaging and educational workshop! Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
