An Exploratory painting experience for beginners & intermediate creatives.

THIS CLASS IS FOR:  Beginners - Intermediate
TIME: Tuesday 6-8pm
DURATION: 10 weeks
WHEN: 15th October - 17th December

COST: Member $220 / Non-Member $230

NOTE: An additional $50 material fee is required in addition to the course fees and should be paid directly to the tutor during the first week of class. This covers the tutor providing mediums for you to try and experimental materials

What will be covered in this course?

You will learn fundamental art theories, how they influence your artwork & how to manipulate them to create effective pieces of art. These theories include: Colour Theory, The elements of Art & Principles of design

The first few weeks you will be guided through creating a set of artworks & experiments to illustrate techniques and learn how to use the materials. This can include abstract, landscape, 3D painting, mixed media and textural components. 

You will be exposed to a range of painting utensils  & mediums including being shown how to use them such as Paint brush types and their uses, palette knives, stencils, sponges and selection of surfaces. You will use mediums such as glazing, gels, glosses, modelling paste, crackle paste, gold leafing, varnishes, masking fluid & more.

The second half of the course will focus on a major artwork of your choice with individualised tuition to coach you through the process of realising your creative project.

By the end of this course students will: 

Confident in selecting an appropriate surface for your art, subject matter and how to approach a painting of your choice. Using a variety of techniques and mediums to create depth, intrigue and engaging works of art.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

  • A variety of coloured Paints 
  • Acrylic Paint brushes in various sizes
  • A3 Canvas Pad 
  • Palate or Plastic Plates
  • Selection of Canvases or Surfaces to paint on (These can be sourced later in the course)

* Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic are great quality for their value but their Premium Satin Acrylic range is ok for those on a budget. More Professional Artist quality paints can be purchased from Kadmium Art + Design Supplies in Coffs Harbour. 

*Please ensure you have a selection of round brushes and small detail brushes in various sizes. A fan brush and some flat shaders would help too. 

(If in doubt you can wait until the first class where all materials will be available from the tutor)

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Jess is a professional artist, face painter and published author. She has exhibited and sold her works both locally and internationally. She studied a Bachelor of Fine Art and has a Diploma of Visual Arts at Tafe NSW. 
She has been working with children and teaching  the arts for over 5 years. She founded Woolgoolga Art School in 2023, is a professional face painter on the weekends and runs private Paint & Sip parties. 
In her personal arts practise she primarily works with acrylic paints, graphite, charcoal & pastels, depicting the human form. 
As a mental health advocate, Jess is passionate about the therapeutic benefits of art making. She has a certificate in Art Therapy and her approach to teaching is a mixture of technical tuition, encouraging creative experimentation and building self esteem. 
Her classes focus on establishing the foundations of art theory and then applying that knowledge to artworks.
