Old Stables Pottery & Gallery, Mullalyup
Have you always wanted to try the pottery wheel? Join us for a relaxed, hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of clay at Old Stables Pottery & Gallery.
In this small-group beginner’s session, you’ll learn the foundations of throwing on the wheel, working with stoneware clay and discovering how a simple lump of clay begins to take shape beneath your hands.
What you’ll learn
Understanding stoneware clay and how it behaves on the wheel.
Wedging basics to prepare your clay for throwing.
Preparing your clay to the right weight for your work.
Centering on the wheel — one of the most important skills in pottery.
Finger and thumb techniques to open and shape your clay.
Working with 350 g of clay, with the opportunity to explore 450 g as your skills develop during the session.
This first session is all about building confidence, understanding the basics and enjoying the process. Pottery takes practice, patience and a little curiosity — there’s no need to have any previous experience.
Your first piece of pottery
We’ll aim for each participant to keep one finished piece, provided it is suitable for firing. As clay is a natural and sometimes unpredictable material, firing suitability will depend on the form, thickness and condition of your work.
Tea and coffee provided
Places are limited to just 5 participants to ensure everyone receives individual guidance and support.
Come along, get your hands into clay and discover the pleasure of making something of your own.
