Beginners Guide to Making Space for Nature

Discover simple, practical steps to support native wildlife in your backyard. This introductory Space for Nature workshop explores planting for biodiversity, creating habitat, and ensuring pest plants and predators don't disrupt the balance. Perfect for anyone wanting to start small and make a big difference for nature in their neighbourhood.

If you're not already a Space for Nature member and you live in Tauranga or the Western Bay, sign up to Space for Nature for free HERE to be able to attend this workshop.

What is Space for Nature:

Space for Nature is an initiative to celebrate and support urban residents, education providers, community organisations and businesses who are protecting biodiversity in their backyards and urban communities, and to encourage others to do the same.

This project is facilitated by Envirohub Bay of Plenty, and supports our aspirations for a National Park Region, a movement towards a greener, wilder, healthier and more resilient Waiariki Park Region. 

Even if you have a small garden or limited space, there is still plenty you can do to give wildlife a safe place to live. People who choose to be proactive in providing safe habitat for wildlife in their gardens can register.

Participants receive:

• A sign for their gate or letterbox, which acknowledges their commitment and hopefully inspires others in the neighbourhood to get on board.

• A free rat trap and tunnel

• A free native plant to plant in your new soace for nature.

• We can provide advice and resources, and connect you with initiatives in your area.

PLEASE NOTE - Places are limited so we have set a max of 2 tickets per order.

Accessibility - We want everyone to feel welcome at our events, if you have any physical, sensory, or other accessibility needs, please make contact ahead of time so we can support you.
Photography - Please note that photographs and videos may be taken at our events and used on our social media and website. If you or your children do not wish to be photographed, just let a staff member or volunteer know when you arrive.
Transport - To minimise environmental impact, we encourage walking, biking, carpooling, or using public transport to attend. Please note that some venues may have limited parking available.
