Unlock your creativity and immerse yourself in the colourful world of glass art! This beginner-friendly course will introduce you to both copper foiling and leadlight techniques. Whether you're looking to start a new hobby or refine your skills, this workshop will guide you step by step through the process of creating beautiful glass art.
Throughout the term, we will also explore other techniques such as glass fusing, painting, and mosaics, giving you a well-rounded introduction to the art of working with glass.
By the end of the course, you will:
- Gain a solid understanding of the tools, materials, and techniques for creating stained glass.
- Complete both small copper foiled pieces and a larger 20 cm x 36 cm glass project.
- Be ready to continue your stained-glass journey confidently!
This Workshop is for:
- Adults (18+)
- Those interested in learning the art of stained glass, from beginners to those looking to expand their skills
Health & Safety Notice:
- This class is not suitable for expectant or breastfeeding mothers due to the use of lead in the materials.
- The course requires strength and precision for tasks such as cutting glass, so it may not be suitable for individuals with weak wrists or arthritic hands.

Irene Hayward, Professional Member of ANZACATA, with over 16 years of experience in glasswork and a passion for teaching.

Required Materials:
Please bring the following to class:
- Grozing pliers
- Running pliers
- Lead knife (if using the lead technique)
- Lead snips (if using the lead technique)
- Glass cutter (oil-based preferred, or a pencil cutter)
- Copper foil tape, lead, horseshoe nails, and solder (can be purchased from your tutor as needed)
Glass:
- Glass to be purchased by the student at their own cost. Supplier details will be provided in class.
What to Bring to Class:
- Closed-toe shoes (no sandals)
- Water bottle
- Dust mask
- Safety glasses
- Disposable rubber gloves
- Ideas/sketches for a simple design
- 2B pencil & soft eraser
- One or two A3 sheets of paper
- Small set square
- Approx. 35cm ruler
- Black art-line 210 medium 0.6 felt pen
- Metal ruler (approx. 60cm) with backing
About Your Tutor:
Irene Hayward is a talented glass artist and pottery teacher based in the Clarence Valley. With over 16 years of experience in glasswork, Irene has honed her craft in both New Zealand and Australia. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others, teaching 1:1 clients at her own studio in South Grafton. Irene holds a Cert IV in Workplace Assessment, is an Art Facilitator, and is a professional member of ANZACATA. Currently, she is studying Creative Arts and Health at university, continuously expanding her expertise in the arts.
