Beginning 4-Shaft Weaving with Karen Alpert
Event description
In this class you will learn how to weave from start to finish. We will measure out the warp, put it on the loom, and learn some basic patterns. Learn to weave plain weave, twill, basket weave, and some finger manipulated patterns (Leno, Brooks bouquet, Danish medallions). We will discuss how to read weaving patterns and what direction your weaving adventure might follow after the class.
This is a two-day workshop; 9:30am - 3:30pm each day.
Bring your own table loom, or weave on one of ours. Cotton weaving thread supplied.
You should bring:
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle (to handle 4-ply yarn)
- Notebook or pad to take notes on
- Lunch each day (tea/coffee/microwave & fridge are available)
If you bring your own loom you will also need:
- 10 or 12 dent reed (10 is preferred)
- Raddle
- Lease sticks/cross sticks
- Warping board/frame
- Two boat shuttles and several bobbins or pirns
This is an introductory workshop; no previous knowledge is assumed. If you want to use one of our looms, be sure to specify "May I use a loom, please?" at checkout.
