Being a Supportive Therapist with Your Non-Monogamous Clients
Event description
If you’re a counsellor or therapist in Aotearoa, and are relatively
new to or uncertain about the concept of non-monogamy (also known as
Consensual Non-Monogamy or Ethical Non-Monogamy), this is the
workshop for you.
Over two afternoons, learn how to
knowledgeably support clients who are exploring or living
non-monogamously – whether they're polyamorous, in open
relationships, monogamish, relationship anarchists, swingers, or use
other labels for their relationship orientations and identities.
Limited to 20 participants, in this workshop (six hours total) you'll:
- learn definitions and frequently used terms;
- understand how non-monogamous relationships and experiences can be similar or different to their monogamous counterparts;
- discover how non-monogamous individuals and communities live within Aotearoa and the world;
- gain clarity into how non-monogamy isn’t cheating or infidelity, whilst also learning that agreements and boundaries can still be breached and what that can look like;
- and comprehensively explore some of the issues non-monogamous clients bring to counselling or therapy, and discuss how to best support clients with these challenges.
You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in immersive learning, and get to know other therapists who are looking to increase their expertise in this area. Additionally, there will be resources made available for all who attend the workshop.
