This inspiring event will equip you with practical strategies to reduce waste tailored to your unique context. Through two interactive workshops, you'll learn how to conduct an effective waste audit to pinpoint priority areas and gain hands-on composting skills to transform organic waste into living treasure. We’ll explore resources available to support you and attendees will also receive FREE composting equipment to kick-start your waste reduction journey.
Waste Audit Workshop (Kristy Hobson, Cool Planet Educator)
Want a real snapshot of your school’s environmental impact? A waste audit is one of the most powerful tools to kickstart change. By taking a close look at the types and amounts of waste produced, schools can identify major problem areas, celebrate successes and set clear goals for waste reduction. Whether you’re just starting your sustainability journey or looking to level up, at our upcoming workshop we'll walk you through how to run a simple, effective waste audit that inspires real action!
Composting Workshop (Liz Scott, MidWaste Environmental Educator)
We'll celebrate the magic of compost! One of the simplest steps on a waste reduction journey is to target food scraps and organic waste. Let's keep them out of landfill! When composted, they transform into nutrient-rich soil that can help school gardens thrive, save valuable resources and cut methane emissions. Composting shows students how waste isn’t the end of the story — it's the beginning of a greener one. Through the Composting Workshop, with composting expert Liz Scott - the Compost Whisperer, you'll learn practical, hands-on strategies for setting up and growing a thriving composting system at your school or centre.
Local initiatives, events and story sharing
The workshop will be followed by a meeting to connect with other local educators and hear about sustainability initiatives in the region. We’ll explore resources available to support you and attendees will also receive FREE composting equipment to kick-start your waste reduction journey.
Warm drinks and delicious afternoon tea will be provided.
