Bendigo Sustainable House Day - Maldon Garden
Event description
Explore a Sustainable Home Garden
Discover a beautifully designed, self-sufficient garden where sustainability meets productivity. The property features around 25 fruit trees thoughtfully spread throughout, supported by an efficient orchard irrigation system. Central to the garden are four to five large wicking beds, which maintain soil moisture and minimize water use, supplied by a 5,000-litre tank connected to the shed, along with a smaller supplementary tank.
Most of the fresh produce is grown on-site, showcasing a low-input, primarily organic gardening approach. Selective care, including citrus food for lemons and grapefruits and occasional seaweed treatments like Seasol, ensures healthy growth while keeping the garden environmentally friendly.
Whether you’re curious about sustainable gardening, making your own garden, or simply want to enjoy a day of inspiration, you’ll find ideas to take away and stories to remember.
