You can see the behaviour. What you can’t see is what’s driving it.

The missed handovers. The safety conversations that don’t land. The meetings where everyone agrees and nothing changes.

Most organisations try to change behaviour from the surface, with new values on the wall, another training program and another engagement survey. It works for a while. Then pressure hits, and people go straight back to what they’ve always done.

That’s not a discipline problem. It’s a depth problem.

Beneath the Surface is a 90-minute executive breakfast for leaders who want to understand what’s really driving the culture in their business, and what it’s costing them.

What you’ll walk away with

A sharper lens on culture and performance. A practical way to explain to your board or executive team why culture is a performance lever, not an HR initiative.
Insight into your own values. A short, guided exercise on the values that drive you, the beliefs underneath them, and the behaviours they speed up or hold back. Most leaders have never looked at this.
A look inside the Barrett Culture Values Assessment. See what it reveals about your people: what they value, the culture they experience today, the culture they want, and how much energy is being lost to friction and fear.
A clear next step. No vague inspiration. You’ll leave knowing what a first, low-risk step into culture work looks like for your organisation.

Who it’s for

Senior leaders who carry responsibility for culture and the budget to act on it: CEOs, MDs, General Managers, People and Culture or HR leaders, and Operations leaders.

Built for leaders in mining, construction, engineering, oil and gas and industrial services.

Bring your counterpart. The best conversations happen when a People and Culture leader and an Operations leader from the same business sit at the same table.

What makes this different?

This isn’t a conference session. It’s 12 senior leaders in one room, with real conversation and a personal exercise you’ll use beyond the morning. We keep it small on purpose, so everyone gets airtime.

For leaders ready to go further, we’ll share a contained first step on the morning, and a bonus for the first three organisations that take it.
