Benskin Groove: West African Dance & Afrobeats Workshop

Meet Benskin, a distinct Bamiléké music and movement tradition from Cameroon, at this welcoming 90-minute West African dance workshop in Nelson. “Afrobeats” is used here as an accessible umbrella term; Benskin carries its own cultural roots, rhythms and movement language.

Led by Amôügįvan [Ivan Touko], the session offers a guided introduction to Benskin through rhythm, movement and shared experience. You’ll explore the relationship between the music and the body, learn foundational movements, and experience the energy and community at the heart of the tradition. Ivan will teach and guide the group while leaving room for everyone to move in a way that works for them.

No previous dance experience is needed. Beginners are warmly welcomed, all levels are invited, and you can move at your own pace. Come solo or bring a friend. Wear comfortable clothing and indoor shoes you can move in.

Tickets are $15 online or $20 cash at the door. Cost should not be the reason anyone misses this experience. If the ticket price is a barrier, please come anyway. We will not turn anyone away.
