To do a thorough literature search on your topic, you need to develop a great search strategy. Learn how a systematic search strategy can help you more efficiently find resources on your topic.
What will you learn?
- How to be methodical and organised in your literature searching,
- How to break down your research topic into key concepts,
- Turning your key concepts into search terms and alternative terms (synonyms)
- Developing your search strategy using Boolean operators,
- Using key databases to locate journal articles on your topic,
- Modifying your search strategy when things don’t go according to plan,
- Save your searches,
- Locating highly cited articles in your research area,
- Requesting resources using InterLibrary Loans.

This session is intended for UTS staff and postgraduate researchers.
