Best Practice Gorse Seminar - Partnerships Against Pests Workshop 2
Event description
Join us for an informative and hands-on workshop dedicated to controlling Gorse in the Moorabool region. Hosted by Moorabool Catchment Landcare Group (MCLG) and Geelong Landcare Network (GLN)Â in collaboration with the Partnerships Against Pests (PAP) program and the Victorian Gorse Taskforce (VGT), this workshop will provide you with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage this invasive weed effectively.
The workshop will kick off at 10:00 am with introductions by Jackson Cass, including an Acknowledgement of Country, a welcome to participants, and an overview of the collaboration between PAP, MCLG, GLN and VGT. Following this, our expert speaker Frank Carland will present on the history, impacts, legal status/requirements, and identification of Gorse. Frank has over 25+ years' experience in pest plant and animal management and environmental management, and always generously shares his knowledge to those he is with.Â
Lunch will be provided to participants, providing a chance for general discussion among participants.
Participants will receive a laminated A2 printout of their property to map Gorse infestations and assist in property management. Photos of each completed property map will be taken for mapping purposes with the landholder's consent. MCLG and GLNÂ will work with landholders who complete this mapping component to potentially obtaining funding in 2025 to assist them with on-ground control of Gorse.Â
Please register before Nov 12 to receive your property map on the day of the event!Â
The workshop will conclude with a property visit just outside of Meredith where we will have a practical demonstration of Gorse mulching from Driven Contracting and spraying from professional contractors. This is a great opportunity to ask any practical questions regarding hand-on Gorse control.Â
