Betar NSW 100 Year Anniversary Reunion Function
Event description
In light of recent events, we have made the decision to dedicate this Anniversary in solidarity for the victims of the Hamas terrorist attack. We still think it is important to gather as a community, celebrate 100 years of Betar and look forward to the future of Zionism and Betar, especially in these distressing times. The majority of the money will go towards assisting Israel in this time, along with supporting our Shnatties.
It goes without saying, but please keep this link private.Â

What is Betar?
Betar is a worldwide Zionist Jewish youth movement. Betar Australia has sniffim (branches) in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. These sniffim run activities and camps throughout the year, and hold larger federal events biannually.
In Betar, we create a fun atmosphere for our chanichim (participants) to engage with and learn about Zionism, Jewish culture, Betar’s ideology, personal growth and leadership. Betar Australia encourages an open environment for chanichim to express and connect with their Judaism, catering to all streams at our camps and functions. We encourage the growth of each individual’s Jewish identity through various peulot (activities) we run around Jewish Holidays and during our camps and seminars.
Our chanichim (participants) and madrichim (leaders) are also involved in various community events within their states and cities, with a focus on Jewish cultural events and Zionism.
History
Betar was founded by the Zionist youth of Riga, Latvia, together with Ze’ev Jabotinsky in 1923 when they challenged him to come up with a way to save European Jewry from anti-semitism. They were inspired by his ideas and, with his leadership, formed Brit HaNoar Ha’Ivrit Al Shem Yosef Trumpeldor (The Covenant of the Jewish Youth in the Name of Joseph Trumpeldor). Its Hebrew acronym is ‘Betar’.
Betar Australia's BeginningsÂ
Betar Australia was first established in Sydney in 1924 soon after Betar’s initial establishment in Riga, Latvia, but it closed in the 1920s or 1930s when its leadership made Aliyah. In 1948, Betar members from Harbin, China and elsewhere reestablished Betar in Melbourne to help provide refuge for the many Jewish survivors of the Holocaust who remained without assistance. Betar later expanded to Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane. Though the Canberra branch has since closed Betar Australia is still a thriving youth movement that is completely run by youth for the youth.
