What’s it all about?

In an effort towards sustainability and adding extra life to our garments and textiles - reusing, repurposing, mending and repairing - Robyn will teach us how to use a sewing machine in a fun and informative class. 

This is a good introduction or refresher class that explores some of the extra features of a sewing machine, like different types a stitches and different types of 'feet' - what are they all for! This will help you understand the right stitch to use for different functions and fabrics.

Come jump in and find out how to blind hem, gather using a gathering foot and why there is white stuff stuck to the bottom of the machine feet!

This class is best suited for students who can thread a sewing machine. Robyn also runs an absolute beginners class - Using A Sewing Machine 101.

What will we cover?

In this hands-on class you will learn:

  • Different types of of Stitches - their use, functions, and settings
  • How to adjust the thread tension and why
  • How to sew a basic stitch and reverse stitch using a sewing machine
  • Basic troubleshooting

Who will be teaching?

Robyn Bunting is a reuse, repurpose and remake enthusiast who is the owner of the business and studio ‘Harold and Maude‘ on level 2 of the Nicholas Building, that focuses on recycling, repurposing and remaking.

She has spent 35 years working in Theatre, film and television industry making all sorts of things using sewing technique of all types.
