Beyond Programmes – appreciating the informal spaces that grow tamariki
Event description
Let’s talk about what happens outside programmes that make a difference for children in our communities, in this first online kōrero for the Child Rich Communities movement in 2023!
Our dominant response to strengthen how adults can support child wellbeing is running a programme or course. There are many worthy parenting programmes in communities across Aotearoa - but what are / what else could we be doing outside programmes to make a difference for children in our communities?
Our experience in community-led development is that informal or ‘bumping spaces’ like waiting rooms, public spaces, school gate drop offs, home visits etc. tend to be invisible and seldom talked about, however they can provide great opportunities to shape the conditions for positive change.
David Hanna, Director of Wesley Community Action will host this session, with Carla Moore from Flourish Taranaki and Kiri Olds, a community educator specialising in Tamariki / Te Reo.
We welcome all from across communities and organisations with a passion for the wellbeing of tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and communities across Aotearoa to join this kōrero, for sharing of ideas and rich conversation.
Watch our last online kōrero - Locally-led development meets responsive services with Claire Achmad – CEO of Social Service Providers Aotearoa, and David Hanna - Director of Wesley Community Action, exploring this topic.
