Beyond school: preparing for the 'next step'
General Family Workshop
This workshop is aimed at parents and carers of teenagers and adults on the spectrum, as well as teenagers and adults themselves, looking to develop skills to secure, maintain and/or change jobs. This workshop will also help develop skills to maintain and create new support networks.
Topics include:
- Setting up successful work experience;
- Employability skills;
- Support options for exploring, preparing for, gaining and keeping employment;
- Autism specific employment programs;
- Matching skills to jobs;
- Showcasing your skills;
- To disclose or not to disclose;
- Self advocacy skills; and
- Strategies to use while volunteering/work experience/on the job.

Workshop Definitions:
General Workshops are designed to give participants a better understanding of autism. They present a broad range of effective strategies that participants can use to improve their practice when working with individuals on the spectrum. These workshops are suited to participants who have not attended previous Autism SA workshops.
In Focus Workshops are designed for participants who have a good general knowledge and understanding of autism. These sessions are for those wanting to enhance their professional practice by developing skills to support individuals in specific areas relating to autism. It is recommended that participants first attend a General Workshop prior to attending an In Focus Workshop.
Autism SA has a highly experienced and diverse training team which includes consultants, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and facilitators who have extensive experience in working with individuals on the autism spectrum in a range of settings.
