Beyond the Kerb Waste and Recycling Tour - National Recycling Week
Description
Have you ever wondered what happens to the materials you place in your kerbside bins once they are collected?
Find out on the Waste and Recycling Tour this National Recycling Week!
Join fellow City of West Torrens residents for a behind-the-scenes visit to the Adelaide Waste and Recycling Centre at North Plympton and the Central Adelaide Waste and Recycling Authority (CAWRA) at Kilburn.
The first stop on the tour will be the Adelaide Waste and Recycling Centre, where you will see the operations of a waste transfer station. This facility sorts general waste, organic waste, recyclables and problem materials that cannot be accepted in kerbside bins. Instead of going straight to landfill, waste is redirected to recycling, processing or appropriate disposal facilities.
The second stop at CAWRA will showcase how materials placed in yellow recycling bins are processed before being sent to manufacturers for reuse in new products. The facility also features a modern and interactive education centre and incorporates a full-length glass viewing wall and an elevated walkway, allowing visitors to get a close-up view of the entire recycling process.
A small tour bus will depart from the City of West Torrens Civic Centre, and seats are limited.
