Beyond the Wānaka Highlight Reel: Belonging is about feeling connected, not keeping up.

We can live in an extraordinary place and still sometimes wonder where we fit.

Wānaka can look like the ultimate picture of wellbeing: adventure, fitness, success, friendship and an enviable lifestyle. But behind what we see, people's lives are inevitably more complicated.

So what happens when we compare how our own life feels on the inside with how everybody else's looks from the outside?

In this interactive session, we will explore belonging in the place we call home. We will look at the unspoken expectations of what a successful Wānaka life is supposed to look like, why being surrounded by people does not necessarily protect us from loneliness, and what actually helps us feel genuinely connected rather than simply included.

We will also consider whose experiences may be less visible within our community, why the usual routes to connection do not work equally well for everyone, and the small everyday behaviours that can make it easier for people to find their place.

This is not simply a conversation about how we can help other people belong. It is an opportunity to think differently about our own relationships, assumptions and experience of community.

You will leave with a clearer sense of what meaningful connection looks like for you, and one practical way to create more of it for yourself and the people around you.
