BIG AUNTY ENERGY

Big Aunty Energy is a family-friendly arts and cultural festival inspired by the matriarchs of our migrant communities, the yiayias, tétas, aunties and elders who preserve culture, share stories and keep traditions alive across generations. Celebrating Greek and Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) communities in Sydney's Inner West, the festival will take place at Marrickville Town Hall on Sunday 13th June o2027.

The program will feature live performances, cultural workshops, cooking demonstrations, a makers market, community bake sale and traditional experiences including Greek coffee cup reading. A guided heritage walk exploring Marrickville's migrant history and cultural landmarks is also proposed, subject to funding. Designed for families, local residents and visitors of all ages.

Tickets will be $15, with free entry for children 16 and under, free for First Nations people to reduce financial barriers to participation.

Accessibility is embedded throughout the event with Auslan interpreters, wheelchair access, gender-neutral bathrooms, a quiet space and access support workers.

Big Aunty Energy celebrates cross-cultural immigrant communities while creating new traditions through food, music, dance and shared cultural experiences.

This project is part of Council's Cultural Connections Program, showcasing diversity in the arts.
