Join author, lecturer and researcher, Mark St Leon, as he shares a fascinating and colourful history of circus in Australia.

Discover how the Australian circus grew from old traditions, absorbed influences from around the world and became a unique part of our culture. Hear about famous circus visits and how performers adapted to big changes over time.

About the presenter: Mark St. Leon is an Australian circus historian from one of the country’s oldest circus families. His great-uncle’s troupe performed at Coney Island’s Luna Park in the early 1900s and appeared in silent films. Mark began researching his family’s history as a teen and has written books about their circus legacy and Australia’s circus history.
