    Event description

Transform your commute on a Bike Bus

Transport for NSW is excited to offer a Bike Bus from Campsie to Tempe. This initiative provides a free, safe, and fun way for people to ride together.

This Bike Bus will meet outside Campsie Station at 7.30am and follow a designated route with stops to pick up riders. We aim to follow this route, running along the beautiful Cooks River Cycle Path, although there may be some detours due to construction or any other events on the day.

The stops along the way, where other riders are welcome to join, are below. Note that times are approximate; please arrive at least 5 mins prior to the stated time:

    1. Depart Campsie Station: 7.30am
    2. Corner of Phillips Ave and Tasker Park (NW corner of Tasker Park): 7.40am
    3. Ewen Park, next to the north end of the Lang Road footbridge: 8am
    4. The south east corner of Beaman Park, at the Cooks River Crossing bridge: 8.10am
    5. The south end of the Illawarra Rd bridge: 8.20am
    6. Arrive Tempe Station: 8.30am

To participate, riders must be familiar with road rules and demonstrate a minimum level of riding competence.

    Why Join the Bike Bus?

    • Cycle safely in a group with experienced riders.
    • Explore new routes in your local area.
    • Reduce traffic congestion and emissions.
    • Stay active and enjoy the outdoors.

What do I need to bring

    • A roadworthy bike: bring it along to one of our free Tune-Up sessions (see here)
    • A helmet
    • Lock to secure your bike at the destination
    • Enclosed shoes
    • Lights, water, sunscreen also recommended

    How does it work?

    • The Bike Bus is designed to support riders and give them more confidence.
    • We will ride at the speed of the slowest rider. This can be anywhere from a gentle average speed of around 15kph up to 20 - 25kph.
    • If it rains, we generally will still ride. If it is very heavy rain, or other severe weather, we will cancel on the day and contact participants by email or text asap.
    • If someone gets a puncture, or has other mechanical issues we will pause the bike bus and wait together to get it fixed. The Bike Bus leader is a competent mechanic and generally can have people back riding within 5-10 minutes. Often watching the leader fix problems is interesting and educational. If the problem is more significant, in this case you may be asked to leave the bike bus, lock your bike in a safe location and take public transport to the final destination.

    Managing risk

    • The benefit of a bike bus is that as more people ride, the group has higher visibility and presence. This encourages drivers to pay more attention to the group, and generally be more considerate.
    • However, you are responsible for your own safety. You will be asked to sign a waiver before joining, and you should be aware that riding a bike will always come with some level of risk.
    • The bike bus is led by 2 experienced riders, who have ridden and risk-assessed the routes. By careful route choice, riding carefully and responsibly, and being considerate of all road users, we aim to minimise the risk, help people build confidence - and most importantly, to have fun!
