Billabong Bird Hide Walk + Morning Tea - Grade 1 (Easy)
Event description
The Sunraysia Bushwalkers invites you to join them on to explore the Billabong Bird Hide Walk. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.
A wide gravel path along the levy bank takes you beside the water, watch the pelicans and ducks floating beside you, perhaps even a swan. The track then passes into a stand of box trees, with Eremophila, birds and perhaps a kangaroo. Rikali (water rats) may be swimming in the water beside the bird hide.
DISTANCE: 5 km loop walk that will take 1 - 1.5 hrs.
WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? This walk welcomes all walkers, as the path is flat, so it will suit any skill level, allowing lots of time to chat to your fellow walkers. This walk starts early to enjoy the bush while it is cool. Take the opportunity to keep your walk fitness ready for longer walks in the future.
CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.
AWT GRADE 1 (Easy): AWT Grade information.
PACE: This walk will be an easy stroll on flat terrain, along a wide gravel track, with no need to hurry.
TOTAL ASCENT: 14m - this includes walking down the bank to the river, as the track is flat.
WALK DESCRIPTION:
The club will provide morning tea, and perhaps share some garden produce. Club Members are always willing to share information about the club.
Please note: The club has conditions on walks proceeding, based on the possibility of high temperatures and/or total fire bans.
MEETING POINT: Meet at 7.45 am for the walk to start at 8 am. Meet at the Billabong Walks Car Park, at the river end of Irymple Ave, Mildura.
DIRECTIONS: This is a dirt track, but well maintained, if you need a ride, get in contact with our club. Drive past the boat ramp, then past Bruce’s Bend Marina, until you come to the “Walks” car park sign. A toilet and tank are at the carpark. Look for the Sunraysia Bushwalkers sign.
