Help Matt and Brenna Rebuild After Endless Setbacks
If you know Matt and Brenna McCrary, then you already know them to be the kind of people who always show up — for their friends, their community, and for the small business they’ve poured their hearts and souls into for ten years: Bad Seed Coffee & Supply. Owning a small business isn’t easy, but they never stop showing up, even when the odds are stacked against them. But right now, despite their resilience and hard work, Matt and Brenna just can’t catch a break.
Like many small business owners, they’ve battled rising costs, inflation, and skyrocketing coffee prices, all the while working tirelessly to maintain Bad Seed as a space for community, creativity, and some of the best coffee in Omaha. And the challenges don’t stop there. Bridge demolition on Harney Street and Omaha’s planned streetcar construction will further disrupt the flow of business to Bad Seed, making it even harder for Matt and Brenna to keep their heads above water.
Now, take that backdrop of constant stress and add the unthinkable: within the span of 90 days, the McCrarys witnessed not one, but two of their personal vehicles totaled on the street in front of their home. One of the vehicles was on loan from family, making an already difficult situation even more devastating. This pattern of property damage on their own street has made it clear — the McCrarys need to relocate their family and replace their vehicle just to keep daily life running.
The McCrary Family Needs Our Help.Matt and Brenna aren’t the type to ask for help, so we’re asking for them. They have three young children to support and a business that occupies such a special place in the Omaha community — they can’t get through this crisis alone.
Here’s what we hope to accomplish:
✅ Replace their personal vehicle: The McCrarys were leasing their car, and insurance only covered its market value — not the full loan amount. To purchase a new vehicle, they need to cover the $2,500 gap left by insurance.
✅ Secure a safe place to live: After two reckless and destructive accidents right outside their home, the McCrarys need to move for their family’s safety. Funds raised can be put toward moving costs or a possible rental deposit.
✅ Take a paycheck: When a small business struggles, the owners often stop paying themselves. Right now, Matt and Brenna are working hard to keep the doors open and take care of their employees. What their family needs right now is income to meet basic needs.
How You Can HelpIf you’ve ever sipped one of Matt’s perfect lattes, smiled at the sound of Brenna’s infectious laughter, or simply enjoyed an hour soaking in the good vibes at Bad Seed, please consider giving back to the McCrary family in their time of need. Every dollar, share, and kind word makes a world of difference.
