Event description

This NESA ACCREDITEDĀ workshop is designed for teachers new to teaching HSC Biology plus those who would like to refamiliarise themselves with the content, background theory and make connections across the different modules of the HSC Biology syllabus. We will be unpacking:

  • HeredityĀ 
  • Genetic Change
  • Infectious Disease
  • Non-infectious Disease and Disorders
  • Opportunities for Depth Studies

In addition, we will connect with the 'assumed knowledge' from the Year 11 syllabus.

NESA ACCREDITATION

CompletingĀ Theory for HSC Biology TeachersĀ will contributeĀ 5 hoursĀ of NSWĀ Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area ofĀ DeliveryĀ and Assessment of NSW Curriculum/EYLFĀ addressing standard descriptorĀ 2.1.2Ā fromĀ the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining ProficientĀ Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

A Certificate of Completion will be sent to Graduate Teachers for their evidence.

Workshop Delivered by Els van Zwieten

Els van Zwieten is a highly experienced Biology teacher and provider of Biology professional learning. She was Chief Examiner of HSC Biology for 5 years from 2018 until 2022 and served on numerous other NESA HSC Biology examination committees. She has also served as an HSC Biology marker and judge marker. Els holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Diploma of Education (Distinction). Prior to dedicating the last 25 years to science education in various NSW schools she worked as a biochemist for 20 years. With CrookED Science, Els is now leveraging her extensive experience in science, education and assessment to conduct professional development workshops for teachers and student tutorials and workshops. She is passionate about science education and inspiring teachers and students. ā€‹
