    Event description

!! IMPORTANT - due to Saturday's forecast of 33C at Monarto, we have had to make some changes to the time and duration of our sessions. Not only is the heat uncomfortable for us, but it is also for the birds. Session 1 will run from 7:30 am until 9:00 am, and session 2 will run from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Join Ornithologist Dr David Paton AM and the Bio·R team for a fun, engaging and informative bird banding session at Frahns Farm this November.

Bird banding involves fitting bands with unique numbers onto the legs of wild birds. Once banded, the lives of individual birds can be tracked through time. We use this technique to help inform us as to how birds are using revegetated woodland habitats in South Australia. Learn more about bird banding.

Please note, there is a maximum of 20 people per session. Tickets are $10 + GST.

To ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience bird banding, we kindly ask those who have already attended a session this year to allow others the chance to register. Additionally, please register for only one session, not both.

    When:
    • Session 1: Saturday 2nd November, 7:30 am - 9:00 am
    • Session 2: Saturday 2nd November, 9:00 am - 10:30 pm

    Where:

Bird banding will be held at Frahns Farm, Monarto. The specific location will be communicated a few days before the event.

    What to bring:
    • Boots for walking and pants for leg protection
    • Other clothing appropriate for the weather
    • Sun protection (hat and sunscreen), sufficient water, snacks & lunch and a backpack to carry your things

    Please note:
    • There are no kitchen facilities on site, nor shelter but there will be a portaloo
    • There will be walking involved, so good shoes and a backpack are recommended

We look forward to seeing you there!

These community bird banding opportunities have been partially funded by Inspiring South Australia, through a 2024 Community Science Engagement and Science Communication Grant.
