A LITTLE ABOUT THE AUSSIE BIRD COUNT
Every year in spring Birdlife Australia runs the Aussie Bird Count. To participate, you simply record all the birds you see in a 20 minute window. People all around the country participate and the data collected year on year tells us how our birds are doing, and shows any changes in their numbers and distribution. Data like this is super important for conservation. As part of the festivities we will do a bird count together, its super simple and I'll explain how to use the app to record the birds we see. I encourage you to do another count over the weekend in your backyard or in another favourite park. The more counts the better the data!
A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR GUIDE
My name is Jade and I have been birdwatching around the Easter Suburbs and beyond for over 7 years. For me bird watching is a great way for to connect with nature everyday. I feel grounded and more connected to my home when I can put names to the birds and other wildlife around me. And when you see a new bird, it's a lot of fun! Bird watching also opened me to all these opportunities to care for them; bush care, native gardening, and supporting wildlife corridors. This gave me purpose and fulfilment. I want to share this sense of wonder, connection and care, with my fellow nature lovers out there. Please reach out to me if you have any questions - jade@comebirdwithme.com
GETTING THERE
- Public Transport: 333 and 380 buses stop on Bondi Road near Waverley Park, or its a short walk from Bondi Junction Station.
- Cycling: There are bike racks near the oval
- Parking: there is parking on nearby side streets, but it can get pretty busy, so I recommend walking, cycling or taking public transport if possible.
